Lake Texoma striper fishing report

September 24, 2007 Fishing Report

Lake Texoma's pool elevation is 618.02.It is still slowly dropping back to normal levels. With the flood gated releasing around the 9800 cubic feet per second (cfs) compared to the 25-20,000 cfs range fishing has definatley picked up. The fishing is good all day with bigger fish being caught in the morning and a lot of short chunky fish in the afternoon. Almost all the fish I've been catching this past week have been taken from the shallows and flats which is typical for where they should be this time of year. I've found fish just about everywhere I've looked, definately a good sign. The stripers on Lake Texoma have finally bunched up into large schools which makes for easy pickings.

Some of te areas I would recommend you check are Platter Flats, North Islands flats area, Mill Creek flats and the flats off in the Washita area. Concentrate on water 25 feet or less.

Baits of choice for morning fishing are 1/2 ounce Cojo Minnows with three inch body, Chug Bugs and Pencil Poppers . Remember the trick to using these baits is to retrieve it fast as soon as it hits the surface of the water. Reel it in keeping the lure right near the surface of the water. As the day gets warmer and the fish go down change to 1 ounce Ghost Minnow slabs. All colors seem to be working well, but I prefer the gold or bone white hues.

Lake Texoma striper fishing report

Cooler temperatures are coming upon us and the larger fish will be getting over the summer heat and starting to fatten up.

Most all the launch ramps are now open so now would be a good time to get out in the great outfdoors and spend some time trying your luck with our Lake Texoma stripers. Be careful when you go to lauch and check the ramp out before backing down it. The flood waters did some damage to many of the ramps and some have some potholes which you want to avoid. Best word of advise is to just take it slow and easy and get on the water to enjoy a great day enjoying the beauty of Lake Texoma while catching a load of Lake Texoma stripers.
